Class Description: BabySwim (45-50 minutes)
This one-of-a-kind swim class for parents and infants (5-17 months) is a great combination of fitness, fun and swimming for everyone in warm water. Each class includes two components:

Aquafit Workout

• parents enjoy an aquafit workout while children sit alongside in flotation boats, allowing them to kick their legs, splash their hands and remain in contact with parents at all times
• all class equipment provided, including baby-boats and aquafit belts
• mom and dad can participate in the Aquafit Workout portion of class, providing there are enough belts

Objectives of BabySwim
Each parent and child will:
• learn about water safety - how to hold baby safely in water (assisted back float); getting ears, face, head wet; ingestion of water; safely submerging baby under water
• enjoy various water activities - puppets, bubbles, sprinkle buckets, ball blaster, splash pads
• learn various activity-based songs which have proven to increase cognitive development in younger years
• learn swim skills such as the back float, ear dipping, flutter kicking, and progressive stages for submersion in water
• develop their confidence in water (please note that some children may take a few classes to acclimatize to their new environment - larger pool setting/group (compared to bath time in tub)
• enjoy social interaction with parents - spending parent/baby time together, interacting with other moms/dads

Please note that both parents may participate in the first twenty minutes of each class; and one parent may participate in the second half of the class (parent/tot swim portion). Also note that photographs and videography can be taken before and after each class.

Class Description: ToddlerSwim (45-50 minutes)
After completing our BabySwim program, toddlers (18-48 months) will further develop the basic swimming skills and enjoy some familiar and new songs/activities.
Please note that our BabySwim program is not a pre-requisite to participate in the ToddlerSwim program.

Objectives of ToddlerSwim
Each child (and parent) will:

• learn about water safety - walking on the deck (no running), staying within arms-reach at all times (on deck and in water), submersion in water
• enjoy various water activities - puppets, bubbles, sprinkle buckets, ball blaster, small/large splash pads, water shooters, nets/fish, pool noodles
• learn swim skills such as the back float, ear-dipping, flutterkicking with boards and pool noodles, and blowing bubbles
• learn progessive stages for submersion in water, including front glide, humpty dumpty and torpedo-time
• learn how to climb out of pool independently, and learn progessive stages on how to jump into the pool
• learn primary colours, counting to ten, and develop vocabulary with a variety of songs/words presented to them
• learn how to share toys, and put away their own toy for each activity
• further develop comfort level in water, and be ready for Red Cross swimming lessons (starting at age four).

Please note that one parent may participate in the class with each child (parents may alternate weekly). Also note that photographs and videography can be taken before and after each class.

BabySwim Swimsuit Required
All infants must wear a cloth diaper swimsuit - regular diaper is not worn underneath.
Bummies and Gaby brands, Little Swimmers (disposable) are not permitted (due to previous "accidents" in the pool).
For every class, your child's suit must fit tightly around upper thighs and waist (to prevent leakage).
Please note - if an "accident" occurs in pool, it must be closed down for 24-72 hours (resulting in lost revenue to all companies which rent the pool).

H2O-FIT recommends the Kushies brand because we have found these suits to be the best fit for all babies.

Be sure to purchase the Kushies Diaper Swimsuit, and NOT the Kushies Diaper Wrap (the packaging on these products looks very similar but they are two different products).

Where to Purchase a Diaper Swimsuit
100 Mile Child (Danforth/Chester) - available year round
Once Upon A Child (Bayview/Laird) - available year round
Toys R Us - available seasonally
H2O-FIT - sells Kushies suits for same retail price as in stores

Lycra Sunsuit
A lycra sunsuit is highly recommended to help keep your baby warm in the class (worn over diaper swimsuit).
Please note that some children wear a lycra suit (long-sleeved) + a neoprene vest over this suit.
A variety of brand names are available:
No Zone
Sunseals
Tagu Gagu
January Baby - great suit! Available year-round at Silly Goose (Danforth/Broadview)
